Waste management is a critical issue for local authorities, but perhaps not one that would obviously benefit from M2M technology. However, waste management as a whole is now being considered within the Smart City context, and some companies have started to offer M2M-based solutions in order to help local authorities to reduce costs.

This Implementation Guide provides guidance to city managers on how they should best deploy smart waste collection. It examines the business case for the deployment of connected waste bins and provides five case studies, including several deployments of Big Belly Solar, which is the pre-eminent technology provider in the space.
