The India Smart Cities Mission was launched in June 2015 by the Indian central government’s Ministry of Urban Development. This Research Note examines the initiative, one of a number of interlocking central government programs aimed at improved quality of life, economic development and growth, and administrative reform for India’s burgeoning urban population.
