Over the last eighteen months there have been some very high profile mergers, acquisitions, investments and valuations of IoT companies, including the acquisitions of SmartThings, 2lemetry and Vuzix by Samsung, Amazon and Intel respectively, as well as a lot of activity around M2M Service Providers. In this Research Note we examine the trends in M&A activity and the likely implications for the development of the sector. Other acquisitions examined include Novatel buying Feeney Wireless, Orbcomm’s purchase of Skywave and Insync, Sierra Wireless’s acquisition of Wireless Maingate, and Abry Partners investment in Kore Telematics, which subsequently bought RACO Wireless.
