Big Data initiatives continuously face regulatory issues, despite the fact that many aim to address societal challenges. In a pioneering move, the Danish Innovation Foundation has launched a new, multi-partner research centre, the Danish Center for Big Data Analytics and Innovation (DABAI). Bringing together universities, private enterprises, and public institutions, including regulatory bodies, DABAI will create a platform for innovative thinking on Big Data.

This Research Note aims to present in more detail the approaches and objectives behind DABAI. Drawing on an interview with Professor Ole Lehrmann Madsen, who is CEO of the Alexandra Institute in Denmark and has a leading role in DABAI, it will also outline how this initiative can serve as a model for future European Big Data initiatives.
