City managers have traditionally adopted a ‘stovepipe’ approach to managing their services, a mentality which has led to inefficiency across a majority of services, with valuable resources wasted as a result. While this lack of communication between departments may not have been critical in the past, the effects of urbanisation on cities in recent years have forced city managers to re-evaluate their strategies. Many will look toward M2M technologies to solve the associated problems, and there is no better time for Smart City platform solutions to take centre stage.

This Research Note looks at the importance of a Smart City platform to the overall success of Smart City deployments.
