The Internet of Things offers consumers new kinds of functionality and services, especially in the area of connected home products, and it creates opportunities for new kinds of players to build these products. But it is also a threat to the makers of traditional home products such as heating systems, white goods and security systems; these risk being pushed down the value chain, or simply bypassed, by newer more internet-savvy start-ups. IoT platform and software provider Intamac aims to redress the balance by providing services and software to the traditional manufacturers. This Research Note examines Intamac and its approach to enabling IoT capabilities for the traditional manufacturers.
