One of the key prevailing trends in IoT in 2015 has been the increasing interest from CSPs in deploying Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networks. The options are many, but typically focus on Huawei’s Cellular IoT, Sigfox and LoRa. While we expect to see frequent deployments of these networks in campus and city wide deployment, the active decision by CSPs to deploy them as overlay networks to existing cellular networks (or adjuncts in the case of Cellular IoT) is a very interesting development. In this Research Note we examine the different approaches and attitudes from CSPs to deploying LPWA.
